Colour portrait headshot of author and playwright Brooke Robinson

I recently collaborated with psychological thriller writer and playwright Brooke Robinson for a compelling portrait session in London. Brooke is a native Australian living in the UK. In the UK, her work has been shown at the Old Vic theatre and London’s Vault Festival. She is published by Penguin Random House with her debut novel titled The Interpreter. Her second novel, The Negotiator was published in June.

We began with coffee and a cake at Redemption Roasters (having scouted out the perfect spot ahead of the shoot, being the coffee snob I am) before exploring the brilliant Coal Drops Yard near King’s Cross. The area features stunning historic architecture beautifully juxtaposed with modern design—a perfect backdrop for author headshots. One of our favorite spots was the former gas cylinder by the river, now transformed into a garden.

Key captures from the session included:

  • Dramatic portraits using the natural light and shadows for her upcoming psychological thriller publicity
  • Casual shots for her social media content
  • Editorial-style images for press releases and speaking engagements

The resulting collection strikes a confident balance between professional and the more casual providing Brooke with a versatile set of images that work across her various creative endeavors – from book jackets to theater programmes.
